MY WORK IN THE SUMMER EXHIBITION

I created a piece of work earlier in the year that was the final piece and culmination of my Prospect Cottage project. The works were inspired by a trip to Dungeoness and the former home of Derek Jarman the English artist, film maker, costume designer, stage designer, writer, gardener and gay rights activist. Set in the distopean landscape of Dungeoness Prospect Cottage has now been saved for the nation and is a mecca for people from all over the world. The cottage is set in a magical garden created by Jarman before his untimely death in 1994 (aged 52). For the final piece I showed all sides of the house surrounding an image of Jarmans famous garden. Printing black onto a sheet of paper already decorated with yellow tissue paper to highlight the cottages distinct paintwork. I printed it in 5 rounds waiting for each to dry before the next could be printed it was quite the tense end to the project as at any moment the piece could be ruined and have to be started from scratch.

I submitted the piece to another Summer Exhibition and was turned down only for the wonderful people at Babylon Arts in Ely to approve it for their Summer Exhibition, featuring both professional and amateur artists based in East Anglia and beyond.

This year's exhibition runs from Saturday 29th July - Sunday 3rd September. You can find out more info here.

I am really thrilled to have my piece included and will be at the events launch on Friday 28th July to celebrate with the other artists.
